Ion optics simulation is very critical for better understanding of the ion trajectories under DC and RF voltages. Improving the ion transmission efficiency is the key for designing the ion optics in mass spectrometer system. There are quite a few parameters needed to be considered during the system design such as the spaces between the lenses, fringing field of lens, collision effects of background gas, space charge effect, etc. Our research scientists have the expertise of using SIMIONTM , Mathmatic, MatLab tools to simulate or calculate the ion trajectories and suggest the optimized system design parameters.

HQ MasSpec has the experience of working on the following simulations:

  • Quadrupole field calculation for different quadrupole rodset geometries (r/r0 ratios)
  • Fringing field calculation between quadrupole and lens
  • Ion transmission with/without Brubaker lens (prefilter)
  • Phase-space Acceptance Ellipse calculation
  • Axial field in collision cell
  • Space charge effect in linear ion trap
